How to Make a Leather Sofa Smell Nice? You can make a leather sofa smell nice by using beeswax, almond oil, and vinegar. You can also use zeolite, charcoal, diluted lemon juice, silica gel, and baking soda to remove the smell from the couch.

Many people sit on leather sofas to watch their favorite TV shows and enjoy family gatherings. Therefore, it should always be better to maintain their cleanliness and prevent them from foul smells.

I have added 17 different methods to get rid of the stinky smell from the leather sofa.

Use of zeolite to absorb smell from leather sofa

Zeolite is a mineral that can absorb smell due to its microporous nature.

Take the zeolite and make its small zip bags and put them below cushions and in the corner of the sofa.

You can remove it after a day, and it will fix the issue of smell from the sofa.

You can recharge the zeolite by soaking it in a 5% salt solution, put this zeolite in a tray and keep it in sunlight for two to three days and use it again.

You can use its capsule and keep it under the cushions for one day. Now remove zeolite capsules, recharge them and use them many times.

The sprinkling of baking soda

Baking soda eliminates the smell by making odorless acid. Baking soda is also called a natural odor eliminator, and it also turns alkali compounds into neutral.

It can fix the smell by binding with the volatile molecule. For example, take baking soda, then spread it on your sofa, and cover it with a cloth for around 12 hours.

Remove the baking soda with a wet and soft cloth to avoid scratches.

Take 4 teaspoons of baking soda, put it in the bowl of hot water, and make a solution, next apply it on the sofa with a piece of cloth. After one hour, clean it with a soft cloth to remove odor from it.

Use of acetic acid

Add distilled water and acetic acid into the bottle and apply a small amount of this mixture to a small area to check that this solution discolors your sofa or not. Then, you can use a clean cloth and apply this solution to the couch.

Use of Newspaper

Old newspaper is a deodorizer due to its porous nature, and it is good to take off smell from the sofa.

You can take the large pieces of newspaper, combine them with glue and take a large string.

Now wrap it around your sofa tightly for the whole night. Untie them, and get off the newspaper, and it will smell nice.

Change your slipcovers

Old leather contains odiferous substances used in the past that produce smell on the sofa, these substances are prohibited now.

When you have an old couch in your home, change its slipcovers because old leather also loses its flexibility due to aging.

Use of silica gel

Silica gel beads absorb moisture from leather that can cause the smell. Take the small pouches of silica gel, keep them under cushions and in the corner overnight.

I am using silica gel bags for my new leather sofas, and they work best to prevent any smell. You can make small bags and place them in its corner.

Use of leather cleaner

Take a soft dry clean cloth and pour a leather cleaner on it, then apply it in a circular motion on your sofa.

You can make leather cleaner at home by mixing 1 to 2 cups of olive oil with white vinegar.

Use a microfiber cloth and apply this solution on the sofa, and after few hours, clean it with a soft cloth. It should always be better to use essential oils with vinegar to make this cleaner.

Use of leather conditioner

The utilization of leather conditioners can easily maintain the flexibility of the sofa and removes the bad smell.

You can add this in an empty bottle and spray it on your sofa. Then, use a soft cloth and dry it completely in the open air.

You can also make a leather conditioner at home from baby soap. You can take 1 to 2 spoons of baby soap in 1 cup of warm water and add 2 to 3 drops of vinegar.

Mix the solution thoroughly, dip the small cloth into the solution, then apply it to the sofa.

Use of beeswax

Take 3 to 4 tablespoons of beeswax, add 6 to 7 tablespoons of castor oil, 1 to 2 teaspoons of cocoa butter, and add 2 to 3 drops of vinegar in it.

Place the saucepan on medium flame, then place beeswax, castor oil, and cocoa butter in it. Heat it for 20 to 40 minutes, add vinegar to it.

Apply this mixture on the sofa with a soft cloth gently and clean it with a soft cloth.

Place sofas in warm places

It is better that you should not keep the couch in direct sunlight. It damages and causes cracking in it, so put it in open air or place near sunlight.

You should place it in a room with proper ventilation. For example, I have placed my couch on the balcony for 2 to 3 weeks.

Use of blow dryer on the leather sofa

You can also use a blow dryer to remove the odor from the sofa by keeping them on low heat.

Then, blow-dry it at some distance to prevent overheating soaks up the moisture, and remove the smell from them. Many people use this technique to fix the slippery sofa.

Use of ammonia spray

Mix ammonia and water to make a solution and put it in the plastic bottle.

Now you can spray it on the leather sofa and wrap it with a plastic sheet, later remove it with the soft cloth.

Air freshener makes leather sofa smell good

Apply air fresheners on your sofa, and then use paper towels to wipe off the spray. These air fresheners smell nice and are easy to use.

These are not expensive and you can use them on the daily basis.

Use of charcoal

It is a domestic method that helps to remove odor from your couch and leaving a fresh aroma. Charcoal bags are highly porous that can filter the air to clean it.

You can keep the charcoal pieces in the sunlight to recharge them, make small charcoal bags.

Put these bags on the sofa under cushions, and this removes odor from them. In addition, it is a cost-effective method because charcoal is not expensive.

Use of citrus oil with mint

You can take a bowl with citrus oil, add mint in it and dip it overnight. Now take a soft cloth, dip it in a bowl and apply this on the couch for few hours.

This is the common method that is being in every household.

Use of lemon juice

Squeeze 2 to 4 lemons into a bowl, add a cup of water to it. Next, take a soft clean cloth, dip a cloth in lemon water and apply gently on your sofa in a circular motion.

You can clean it after an hour and dry its surface.

Use of dishwasher

The dishwasher has a strong smell so, you can use it to overcome the bad smell from the leather couch. It also helps to remove mold from the leather couch.

You can take a dishwasher in a bottle, add some water to it and mix them well.

Then, put the liquid into the spray bottle and sprinkle this on the sofa. You can clean it after one hour clean it with a wet cloth gently.
